On any securities market the contract is the agreement between a buyer and a seller to buy or sell securities. See contract note.
The term contract has a slightly different meaning on a financial futures market although the general interpretation is the same.
On a futures market a contract is a binding agreement to make or take delivery at a specified date of a stated amount of whatever financial instrument or commodity is being traded.
