Tesco credit cards come with the advantage that the supermarket has very deep pockets. With the stores Bonus credit card customers will benefit from interest free balance transfers for a period of 14 months - although a balance transfer fee does apply on all transfers made within the first 12 months.

The Bonus credit card from Tesco will then offer a further 0% on purchases 6 months. When interest becomes payable it will be charged on a variable basis.

This Tesco Bonus credit card is so-called because a bonus is paid back to the customer each year. The amount of this bonus depends on how much has been spent on the card and how much interest has been paid.

Tesco also offers a Clubcard credit card. This works on the same terms as the Bonus credit card but will give customers extra Tesco Clubcard points on purchases made both inside and outside the store. This version is therefore also a 0% credit card for a maximum 14 month period.

Tescos own payment protection insurance PPI is available on all its credit cards should you require it which will cover certain missed payments if you lose your job or become ill and cannot work.

The Tesco Clubcard credit card is one of the best cards to possess if you are a regular Tesco shopper mostly because you can earn club card points on everything you spend on the card. This, as every Tesco shopper knows, can be invaluable when arranging a day out with the family or saving up your points to pay for all the treats at Christmas. So with that in mind, the initial offer of the Tesco bonus credit card is 0% on purchases for 12 months from account opening followed by a secondary offer of 0% for 6 months on balance transfers 2% BT handing fee applies during first 4 months, all for a typical APR of 16.9% APR Variable. Clubcard points are awarded for every £4 spent in store which at the end of each quarter will be collated by Clubcard and sent to you as Clubcard vouchers which you can then spend in store; exchange for Airmiles; or convert into four times their value as Clubcard rewards.

Tesco was founded by Jack Cohen in London’s East End in 1919 when he began to sell surplus groceries, within 10 years he had opened the first Tesco store in Burnt Oak, North London. From then on the company went from strength to strength becoming a private company in 1932 and reaching £1 billion on an annual basis in 1979. In the 90s, the Tesco brand continued to boom, the most notable developments being the launching of the well known ‘Every Little Helps’ slogan in 1992 and Tesco’s own finance products, being launched in 1997. As of May 2009, Tesco reported 468,508 staff worldwide with over half of those being based in the UK alone; and 4,308 Tesco stores worldwide again with over half in the UK.
