Abbey

Abbey offers two forms of credit cards; one no-fuss long-term 'Flat Rate' card and another card designed specifically for balance transfers, unsurprisingly entitled 'Balance Transfer Card'.

 

American Express

American Express offers both credit cards - where you may potentially borrow to your limit and make minimum repayments - and charge cards, the balance of which has to be paid off in full every month.

 

aqua

aqua credit cards are aimed at borrowers on the fringe of normal borrowing criteria.

 

ASDA

If you go to ASDA to get your credit card as well as your groceries and kids' school clothes, you will receive 0% interest on balance transfers for a total of 9 months, although you will pay a 2.5% balance transfer fee for the privilege.

 

Barclaycard

Perhaps the most well-known of all UK credit cards, Barclaycard allows 0% balance transfers for a little over the first year of taking the card, although, like many other credit card providers today, this service comes with a handling fee.

 

Capital One

Capital One credit cards come in Platinum, for borrowers with an excellent credit history, and Classic for borrowers who want to establish or strengthen their credit rating.

 

Citibank

Citibank has three credit card offerings; one standard card and two cards affiliated with airlines, namely American Airlines and BMI.

 

Egg

Egg describes its credit card as 'one to stick with'. Notwithstanding the droll 'egg' reference, egg's credit card is clearly competitive.

 

Goldfish

Goldfish credit cards - which are owned by Morgan Stanley Bank - offer customers 0% per annum on balance transfers for a six-month period, although this is subject to a 2% handling fee.

 

Hailfax

Halifax certainly 'gives you extra' when it comes to credit cards as it offers an extensive choice for consumers.

 

HSBC

HSBC has two types of credit card and - it's standard and gold cards

 

Marbles

Marbles credit cards stopped accepting new applicants from 12 April, 2007.

 

Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer's instantly- recognisable &MORE credit card offers 0% on all new purchase made anywhere until January 2008 but is interest-free for two full years on purchases of Marks and Spencer furniture costing over £1,000.

 

Mint

Mint - the credit card famous for its one missing edge - offers 0% on both balance transfers and new purchases until 1 February 2008.

 

MBNA

MBNA offer a range of financial products including credit cards - the three branded MBNA credit cards headed-up by the MBNA Platinum Plus Credit Card. Other credit cards include MBNA Classic Credit Card and MBNA Platinum Rewards Credit Card.

 

Monument

Monument credit cards, that was originally called Providian, has recently been sold to CompuCredit by its previous owner, Barclays Bank.

 

Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley credit cards come in two flavours: the Platinum card - available in black and grey - and the buy and fly! MasterCard, which earns you air miles as you spend.

 

NatWest

NatWest has a range of credit cards to suit different types of borrower; namely the Classic, Gold, Platinum and Student.

 

Post Office

The Post Office Mastercard is funded by the Bank of Ireland.

 

Sainsbury's

The no-fuss credit cards available from Sainsbury's Bank come in two flavours; the standard credit card and the platinum credit card.

 

Sky

A Sky card goes beyond what you put into your Sky box.

 

Tesco

Tesco credit cards come with the advantage that the supermarket has very deep pockets.

 

Virgin

Virgin Money prides itself on the length of interest free period that applies to its 'trendily-marketed' credit cards.
