The RBS basic current account pays nominal interest on credit balances, and offers an interest-free overdraft of £100, with an additional authorised overdraft available on tiered interest rates.
RBS has a range of packaged accounts on offer, all offering marginally higher credit interest, but an array of other benefits to make up for this paltry rate. The Royalties account costs £6 a month, and customers benefit from lower loan rates, savings on their gas and electricity bills, card protection and car breakdown cover.
Royalties Gold customers pay £12 a month for the same benefits as those on offer to Royalties customers, but in addition also have access to worldwide family travel cover, and travel and concert discounts.
Royal Bank of Scotland's most expensive account is Royalties Premier, costing £15 a month. It offers the same benefits as Royalties Gold, but also comes with a personal travel adviser and lifestyle manager should you wish to have someone to help organise the things you don't have time to do. This account also has a £500 interest-free overdraft facility.
There are also a range of student and young persons accounts, which offer discounts on DVDs, concerts, videos, CDs and computer games.
